Regarded as London’s finest hotel with an unrivalled history and original grandeur that makes it a true London landmark building. The Lanesborough was built in 1719 as a country retreat for the second Viscount Lanesborough, James Lane. Some years later, in 1733 the House was used as a hospital and stayed this way until 1980.Ten years later The Lanesborough opened as a luxury hotel following extensive renovation and redevelopment. The architects and interior designers took extreme care in restoring the building to its 1830's splendour, creating a new steel frame with the old shell and building a new roof. Furniture, chandeliers, drapiers and fabrics were copied from authentic examples of the 1820's and 1830's. What you see today is an outstanding example of neo classical design and decor.
