The village of Castlemartyr, located in County Cork, Ireland, has a history that dates back to the Bronze Age. The first castle was built in 1210 and belonged to the Knights Templar. Richard Boyle, the first Earl of Cork acquired the lease from Sir Walter Raleigh after Raleigh’s fall from grace and forced him to sell Castlemartyr and the surrounding lands. The Boyle family retained ownership for over 300 years and in the early 1700’s Henry Boyle, the Earl of Shannon built the eastern portion of the Manor House. Over time, the estate has experienced several owners and was last utilized as a private school until converted into a stunningly beautiful luxury hotel that has already received many world accolades for its product and service.
